first of all - congratiolations and thankx a lot to the ones developed such a great software as clonzilla!
I want to clone 25 clients (and i did) with clonezilla. A the documentation it is mentioned that a cheap switch would do the job - but probably not with multicast :). At work we have an old allnet 0480-24-Port switch. When i start cloning the speed is about 50Mb/min (a looooooong time ... roughly 3 hours ...). Now i'm thinking about buying a new switch so that i can use the full available speed clonezilla-server would make possible. I thought of buying a HP ProCurve 2626 or an 3Com 3COM Baseline Switch 2924-SFP - any experiences with that hardware? A switch that i only have to plug the cables in and that's it would be fine - i have no clue about configuration and stuff like that with switches..)
Would be really great if somebody could help with that decision :)

50MB/min is really slow... Typical the speed here we have is about 600MB/min for 41 clients multicast clone with 2 DES-1026G -24-Port switches.
OK. First, maybe you can try to check the option "-brdcst" in advanced parameter when you start clonezilla with your allnet 0480-24-Port switch.
As for network switch recommendation, well, We'd like to suggest that you can buy an unmanaged switch (layer 2) if this switch is only for clone purpose. For example, the one we use here (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=76) is good enough. Of course, you can buy a better switch. However, you have to turn on multicast and turn off "spanning-tree calculation".

thanks for quick answer. I will try the settings as you said tomorrow at work. If i got it right it means that i start /opt/drbl/sbin/dcs -brdcst (or should i add this option to the comandline "next time you can do that by typing.... or so?)
Question to the dlink switch you are using:
...However, you have to turn on multicast and turn off "spanning-tree calculation". ....
Does that mean, that there is a real physical switch or a web-interface for configuration this switch with "multicast on" and "spanning-tree calculation off"?
Thankx in advace

(1) Yes, when you run /opt/drbl/sbin/dcs -> clonezilla-start ... , remember to check -brdcst. If this works, just follow the "green command" shown in the screen to run it in the future.
(2) Yes, those managed switches definitely provide command line or web interface so that you can turn multicast on and turn "spanning-tree calculation" off.
Good luck.

the D-LINK DES-1026G Switch you are using is a quiet one? I couldn't find more information exeptioned that it has only one fan. If it is working for cloning and dayly use i will be happy and probably buy it :) (i do have to seperated networks via proxy-server & ip-tables so it shouldn't be a need to have a managed switch...)
Thankx in advance

Polker,
D-LINK DES-1026G is actually a old model, about 3-4 years ago. It's not too noisy... but I can not put it as "quiet", since still I can hear the noise from it.
