    Hi,

Some time ago I used Clonezilla Live 1.2.16-67 to clone my 1 TB hdd. Now I’m trying to restore that disk image to a 500 GB hdd.
I checked the Clonezilla FAQ, that it is possible to restore to smaller hdd when the image was taken from a bigger one if you enable the “-icds” and “-k1” options in expert mode. I tried this but it didn’t work for me.
    http://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live/doc/02_Restore_disk_image/advanced/09-advanced-param.php
I’m also sure the space in use in the source hdd is less than 40 GB, that’s why I’m trying to restore in a smaller hdd.

I first used the same version of Clonezilla (1.2.16-67) to restore the image, but I had the following error: “Unable to find target partition “sdc2”!!!

I thought that this version of Clonezilla might not support the option of restoring to smaller hdd, so I tried to use other versions: 2.2.3-25 and the last one 2.4.2-61. In both cases I got another type of error: Failed to restore partition image file…

I read on some blogs that I can use GParted to reduce the partition of source hdd, so I can then save the reduced partitions using Clonezilla’s “saveparts” options, and then restore partitions using Clonezilla’s “restoreparts” option, but it’s not possible in my case since I don’t have that PC any more.

I really need some help to get the data from that image. Thanks in advance.

" it’s not possible in my case since I don’t have that PC any more. " -> What did you mean by this?
Since you can use Clonezilla live, there is no reason you can not use GParted live to boot the machine and resize the partition.

    Steven.
