I tried to clone a disk that contains a recently installed copy of Windows 10. Clonezilla copied the system partition, then displayed this message when it got to the Windows partition: "ntfsclone-ng.c: NTFS volume is scheduled for a check or it was shut down uncleanly. Please boot Windows or fix it by fsck."

I didn't consider running fsck because there's no Linux on the computer -- the whole point of running Clonezilla is to back up the completely installed and configured Windows for safety before I install Linux. So I booted Windows: let it come up completely, then shut it down again. Then I ran Clonezilla again, and it displayed the same mesasge.

What's happening here? When Clonezilla says "Please boot Windows" does it mean "Please boot Windows and run chkdsk"? That would be kind of like saying "Open your car's hood" when you mean "Open your car's hood and check the hoses," but I can do it if it's needed. Or I can boot a live Linux disk and run fsck from that. I don't want to do things at random because I can't tell what Clonezilla wants, though.

Following up... since I have no response yet, I tried running Windows's chkdsk. After that the copy worked correctly. I was able to clone the disk and boot the clone.

So the problem was easily solved... only not by taking Clonezilla's instructions at face value.

      Simple, but helped. Thanks.

Seemed to have something to do with Windows Hibernation.
