I've made an image of my OS partition using Clonezilla. The OS and all the software I installed takes up almost 8 GB on the partition, but the image is less than 3 GB large. I thought images are larger than the source, but in this case source seems to be more than twice as huge! Is my image broken for some reason?

The image is compressed, Normally it's about 1/3 of source. It looks like it's fine.
When the image was saved, you should be able to see the image was checked:
http://clonezilla.org/fine-print-live-doc.php?path=./clonezilla-live/doc/01_Save_disk_image/11-saving-disk-image.doc#11-saving-disk-image.doc
Like:
http://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live/doc/01_Save_disk_image/images/ocs-11-checking-saved-image.png
Or you can run "ocs-chkimg" to check the image.
