Steven,
thank you for reply.
Yes, the gz seems broken but I don't want to repair it, I would like to understand why the clone not succeed!
How can I do this?

"would like to understand why the clone not succeed! " -> No idea. pigz should be very stable. So when the image is saved by pigz, it should be flawless.
Did you check your hardware? Like to do the RAM test (membest), or check if the CPU temperature is too high?

I am having the same problem. I saved perfectly the image of my SATAIII disk, and now when I try to restore into a bigger and new SSD disk, I have the error.

Sometimes a hardware issue might cause this error, too. Hence you'd better to check the integrity of your hardware. It's recommended to do a memtest, too.

I'm having the same problem with a disk that I've had no problems imaging in the past. I've run memtest with no errors. I've also run GSmartControl self tests on the ssd (Short Self-test and Extended Self-test) with no errors. I'm not sure how to monitor the overheating suggestion but when I did the memtest the temp was reasonable. 47C was the highest. Also ran fsck with no issues found. I'm not sure what to try next. I'm using Clonezilla Live 2.8.1-12 amd64
Any suggestions?

I get the same error after created the image during the check.

What direction to investigate: pigz issue or partclone one?
Oops... Looks like the gz file is broken. Maybe you can use "gzrt" to fix that file. If you want to fix it, backup the original one first.

@Luciano did you ever fix this? We're running into the same error on restore. Could it be a UEFI issue?

Maybe somehow the image is broken when it was saved...
Or you can try to use different machine to check the image?
