I've used Clonezilla live through USB 2.0 on my multiboot Mac successfully in the past, but when I started using a Firewire 800 HDD enclosure, the HDD does not even show up in /dev in Clonezilla live. I also tried the alternate Ubuntu based Clonezilla and Clonezilla SE on a Minimal Ubuntu USB, which recognizes the HDD but does not recognize any filesystems.
Do any versions of Clonezilla live have kernels with firewire support? Alternatively, does Clonezilla SE require any setup when it is only used locally? Thanks!

I do not have any firewire device, therefore no such experience.
However, do you know any version of GNU/Linux support your device? If so, how do you use that? If you can provide the info, then maybe we could come out a solution.
Thanks.
Steven.

I use Ubuntu on my device. It can also run Ubuntu (and probably Debian) from a USB stick. However, Clonezilla SE did not recognize the filesystems in any of my partitions. Do I need to configure Clonezilla SE if I only use it locally? If so, how do I set up Clonezilla SE? Thank you for your help!

Since Ubuntu works for you, I believe you can first try Ubuntu-based Clonezilla live:
http://clonezilla.org/downloads.php
then use this mode of Clonezilla SE:
