    Hi,

We've been successfully using Clonezilla for a while, but having some problems using it with some new Acer W510's. With Secure boot turned off I can boot into the first menu fine. However whatever I choose from the menu I can't get any further, the menu options disappear but the background image remains and nothing happens.

I had been running a version from the earlier in the year, but have updated to 2.2.0-21 to test without change.

Any tips? Getting a bit desperate.

    Thanks

Please give Clonezilla live 20131112-trusty a try.
If this issue remains, maybe it is related to a syslinux/isolinux 5 bug. We will switch to version 6.02 with some patches after another stable clonezilla live is released. It's scheduled next week.
Therefore if the older version (e.g. 2.1.x) works for you, please keep using that.

    Steven.

I've tried that build but no change unfortunately.
    ocs-iso -n u -n a -s --extra-boot-param quiet union=overlayfs -i 20131112-trusty-amd64

Is there a release date for the next update you mention?

    James,
You can give Clonezilla live 2.2.1-1 or 20131126-* a try.
Please let us know the results.
    Thanks.

    Steven.

    No luck unfortunately, tried;
    clonezilla-live-2.2.1-1-i686-pae
    clonezilla-live-2.2.1-1-amd64
    clonezilla-live-20131125-saucy-amd64
    clonezilla-live-20131126-saucy-amd64

Same issue, Clonezilla menu appears and when I select any option the menu text disappears but the background image remains and nothing further happens.

Tested on an older laptop and confirmed Clonezilla was fine on that.

So there is no any error messages?
    Today on syslinux mailing list:
    http://www.syslinux.org/archives/2013-November/021198.html
There are some discussions, and there are 2 more patches described in the URL. Not sure if the issue is the same with yours. Could you please read that?
    Thanks.

    Steven.

Retyping this as my post disappeared, but no that doesn't sound quite the same. They seem to be talking about old hardware, not new like mine. Also I get no error message at all and do actually reach the first menu so it's booting to some extent.

Is there any debugging I can do? I could record a video on my phone to make it clear but not sure it'll show much more than I've described.

I am not really familiar with the debugging of syslinux. Maybe you can ask that on syslinux mailing list.
Now I can only wait for the next release of syslinux, and use that in the future version of Clonezilla live. Recently the boot issues of 6.02 were discussed actively on that mailing list, so I am sure it will be improved in the next release.
For the time being, maybe you can use old versions of Clonezilla live (<=2.1.1-25), those use syslinux 4.x.

    Steven.
