    1.  Hello, I am new to Clonezilla and I am ready to make a copy of my computer HD. The question I have is if I use my USB external HD to save the cloned image will the data already on my USB drive be lost or overwritten? OR does clonezilla make a separate folder within the USB HD that I can later use to image my machine? I don't want to lose my stuff (there is a lot) on my external HD.

    2.  Most of the 40 Gig drive I want to copy is empty…does clonezilla only copy what is used rather than the entire space?

    3.  Last question…I am going to use Gparted to make partitions in the computer I want to clone. First I will clone the computer before I make the partitions. After I make the partition can I then reimage the computer with the clone I made with clonezilla? I understand it needs to be the same file format but does it need to be the same size..My computer HD is only 40 Gig but only 10 GIg has been used.

    As for your questions,
    1. Clonezilla  will make a separate folder within the USB HD that you can later use to image in machine if you choose to save the image (not disk to disk clone). However, be aware that if the system crash due to some reason, there is a risk that your data on the external HD might be gone. Therefore it's always a good idea to back up important data.
    2. Only used space if the file system is supported, e.g. ext4, ntfs…
    3. The destination partition should be equal to or larger than the source disk.

    Steven.
