I tried to run a simple maintenance back-up on a Windows drive and received the following error:

read CRC error, please check your image file.
    read CRC size (0),
read CRC error: Illegal seek, please check your image file.
    Partclone fail, please check /var/log/partclone.log
This partition in the image is broken: sda1
    Press "Enter" to continue......
    *****************************************************.
Broken partition images were found, or some of them are not checkable in this image: 2013-02-14-11Cicero
    Press "Enter" to continue......
    *****************************************************

This is the contents of the log file:

    Partclone v0.2.49 http://partclone.org
    Starting to check image (-)
    Calculating bitmap... Please wait... done!
    File system:  NTFS
    Device size:   62.9 GB
    Space in use:  40.5 GB
    Free Space:    22.4 GB
    Block size:   4096 Byte
    Used block :  9891634
read CRC error, please check your image file.
    read CRC size (0), Success.
read CRC error: Illegal seek, please check your image file.

I mounted the drive in GParted and did not find any errors.  Preparing for the backup, I opted to interactively check the partition before the actual back-up.  The above error appears when checking the image after back-up phase is complete.  I have attempted to back-up to 3 different destinations: two different drives on the same system or an external USB drive.

I have no clue what to do next.  Some help would be greatly appreciated.

    Correction:
The error occurs during the backup phase.  It never completes a backup.

In your case make at first
a backup of your important data,
    then a windows 7 defragmentation:
    Start
    defrag  # in the commandline
    etc.

    Use clonezilla now.

I do not have Windows 7, only XP.  I defragmented the drive using that and am still receiving the same error if I use Clonezilla

It's a hardware problem. Your HDD is very old I think (64 GB).
    - HDD temperature check manually (should be about 45 grd)  or
    - HDD temperature check with program SIW /Sensors/HDD/Temperatures
('Software Information for Windows' Gabriel Topala)
    - HDD check with the manufacturer software (sectors) or with free software
(after about 8 years I had to change the HDD)

    - check the connectors of all connections, USB too.
    - use the RAM memory of about 1 GB
    - make a memory check with clonezila
    - You can make a md5sum test for your clonezila software yet.
    Good luck !
