Hello, I’m trying to boot clonezilla-live-20210817-hirsute-amd64 on a new Dell XPS 8940 with BIOS 2.2 (latest as of today).
It looks like the boot starts but does not complete, I’m greeted with a black screen with the following text at the left top corner:
Failed to open \EFI\BOOT\? - Invalid Parameter
Failed to load image \EFI\BOOT\?: Invalid Parameter
start_image() returned Invalid Parameter.
I have tried turning Secure Boot off, I get the same message. Initially I was booting off a USB key but even trying with a DVD-R results in the same behavior.
I ran the Dell update tool: no new updates are available so it appears I’m running latest BIOS and NVMe firmware. I loaded BIOS defaults, no change.
I tried booting Ubuntu 21.10, same thing: Ubuntu is not detecting any internal hard drives. I went into BIOS > System Configuration >SATA Operation and change the setting from "RAID on" (default) to "AHCI" and rebooted. Now Ubuntu is able to see the drive BUT Windows will not complete booting because it's missing the AHCI driver. To get around, I'd have to figure out how to install the correct driver in Windows, or just reinstall Windows with SATA Operation set to AHCI from the get go. Neither looks particularly appealing at the moment. Perhaps in the future Linux will be able to recognize NVMe drive when SATA Operation is set to RAID (on) in the BIOS.

Any suggestions?
Please give Clonezilla live >= 2.8.0-23 or 20211103-impish a try:

We have some improvements about uEFI booting.

I tried testing - 2.8.0-25. The boot process works a treat. Thanks!
The celebration was premature, now the NVMe is not being detected :(

Here's a screen shot of some dmesg output.
You might have to wait for newer Linux kernel to support your hardware.

Same issue with alternative stable - 20210817-hirsute, Dell Optiplex 3070 Bios 1.7

So did you try testing Clonezilla live, i.e.,
Clonezilla live >= 2.8.0-23 or 20211103-impish?
