Hello, I'm struggling to save my disk using clonezilla.
I'm using Clonezilla live with the latest release. I can go through the clonezilla saving process until the lasts steps where lshw is runned. It then hangs undefinitely with the following error message :
BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for xx sec
Is there anything I can do to solve this ?
Best regards,
Nicolas

Same issue if you use 20230825-mantic?
If so, an workaround is before starting Clonezilla, you enter command line prompt, then run:
rm -f /usr/bin/lshw
We should have an option to skip running lshw or those related commands in the expert mode in the future release.

Not sure if newer Linux kernel works for you or not.
You can give testing Clonezilla live 3.1.1-18 amd64 a try: https://clonezilla.org/downloads.php
It comes with newer Linux kernel 6.4.13.

The situation is actually worst than before as I got the" BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for xx sec" happenning randomly during the configuration of the clone. I didn't even managed to get to the cloning steps...

Please give testing Clonezilla live 3.1.1-17 or 20230825-mantic a try:

Hello Steven,
I'm having the same issue with Clonezilla live 3.1.1-17. Please find attached the output of clonezilla.

Hello Steven,
Yes I got the exact same issue with 20230825-mantic.
I removed /usr/bin/lshw and tried to do a disk clone, I still have error messages.
I'm waiting for it to finish but I guess it is stuck again.
Let me know what should I try next.
Regards,
Nicolas

Hi Steven,
I tried with 3.1.1-18 but I'm still getting the same issue.
FYI, this is the computer i'm using https://www.kontron.com/en/products/come-mel10-e2-/p160302 and i'm running a Ubuntu 16.04 on it.
Thanks for your time,
Regards,
Nicolas
So this issue only happens on this machine, right?
Do you have same model but another one? If so, is this issue reproducible?
Steven
Yes I have 3 computer that are configured the same way and they all act the same when I try to clone their disk.
Nicolas
Maybe this is kernel regression... Have you used older version of Clonezilla live?
https://sourceforge.net/projects/clonezilla/files/clonezilla_live_stable/
Maybe this issue does not exist when running older version of Clonezilla live...
Steven
BTW, have you tried to update the firmware of BIOS?
Steven
That's a good point, I will try this today!
Nicolas
Hello Steven,
I managed to update the BIOS.
The situation is actually worst than before as I got the" BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for xx sec" happenning randomly during the configuration of the clone. I didn't even managed to get to the cloning steps...
