Hi (I am a newbie and in need of some serious help!)

I have just recently tried to muticast clone winxp-pro. I am able to clone the pc to the drbl/clonezilla server. I am able to restore the image to a client but when the restore is finished and it reboots , windows doesn't boot up. The error message says "missing operating system".

When the machine boots up via pxe and loads drbl - restore image to disk. I have noticed during the restore process, that Linux is placed on sda1 and winxp is placed on sda2. Could it be that windows needs to be on sda1 and linux on sda2? I've ran drblpush -i again and there is no section for partitions. Would I have to edit the conf scripts so that windows is set to sda1? How would I edit this??

Now I have checked through all of these forums and done everything that has been suggested. I ran the recovery console that comes with xp and ran the commands fixmbr and fixboot. After I run these commands windows boots up.

Why is it that this happens, I am using the latest version of drbl. Is there a fix for this so that you don't have to go to each machine and load up winxp setup - recovery console - fixmbr, fixboot??

Please could you help me as I am new to all of this. I would really appreciate some help?

    Thanks please help....

In unstable DRBL and Clonezilla, there is an extra option "-e2" which might help.
So when you restore an image, leave the default options (-g auto, -e1 auto, -e2...), maybe it will work.
If you are using stable drbl and clonezilla, try to follow
      http://drbl.sourceforge.net/one4all/#upgrade
      to upgrade to unstable drbl.

      Steven.

      Hi Steven

Thank you for your quick reply.

I upgraded to drbl unstable and it worked!! so thank you very much for your help. I tried to clone 1 pc as a test, and so far so good. I noticed when it was doing the restore it put the NTFS volume on sda1. So the -e2 option worked a treat!

It copied the winxp pc under 10 mins to the server. For the restore it took aprox 7 minutes. I found this to be very impressive as I have used win server 2003 RIS and that takes ages! This is a brilliant project and one that I shall recomend!

      Once again thank you :)
