I have a usb stick with the followin clonezilla live image: clonezilla-live-20120620-precise
Installation is done using the Tuxboot approach on a Win7 system.
When booting from this stick, the boot menu is shown
I have tries three options: VGA=640x480, Failsafe and Graphic safe. The result is the same.
Immediately after selecting the option, the screen turns black.
Quickly after that (about 5 seconds) the system reboots.
Questions:
- What can cause this behaviour?
- What can be done to get feedback about what is going wrong?

I tried: clonezilla-live-2.0.0-16-i686-pae. And then selected the KMS as you suggested.
Unfortunattely the behaviour is identical:

I will try to get the Clonezilla output via the serial port.

Today I tried: clonezilla-live-1.2.6-40-i686 (which we have working on at leat one stick)
I installed this image (tuxboot, and pre-downloaded iso) on the stick that I used to find previous output. It did gave me a crash after about 4 seconds of booting.
Then I used the known working stick and it was working.
Then I made a third stick (identical type as the known working stick) with clonezilla-live-1.2.6-40-i686. And this gave no errors.
Non working stick: Duracell 4GB
Working stick type: Imation swivel 4GB.
Conlusion: errors are caused by stick type!

How about giving Clonezilla 2.0.0-16 or 20120908-quantal a try?
In the boot menu of Clonezilla live:
http://clonezilla.org/fine-print-live-doc.php?path=./clonezilla-live/doc/01_Save_disk_image/01-clonezilla-boot-menu.doc#01-clonezilla-boot-menu.doc
Try to enter "Other modes of Clonezilla live", then choose the one "KMS". Maybe that will help.
Steven.

I was able to get the following output via the serial interface (this is never visible on the screen):

After, this conclusion. clonezilla-live-2.0.0-16-i686-pae was installed on the Imation Swivel, and the crash is no longer present.
OK, thanks for sharing that.
Sometimes hardware might cause kernel module crash… That happened to me, too.
Steven.
