after this problem http://sourceforge.net/projects/clonezilla/forums/forum/394751/topic/4807708 I was ready to give CloneZilla a try but to my astonishment CloneZilla won't load. I use a bootable USB stick and it works on my Dell laptop, I can clearly see the clonezilla option screen there. However on my i7 iMac with a new 2TB fresh but hfs+ formatted hdd Clonezilla does not load. After choosing to boot from the USB stick I am basically in Grub but I can't do anything. It's like linux without a GUI and without any real possibilities with regards to commands. The find command does not exist for example. So I can't manually load clonezilla.
This is really annoying, I can't even begin cloning my broken hard drive like this. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
PS: I have tried both the i486 as the i686-pae (only the last stable) versions.

Hi. Thanks for creating this thread. We too have iMacs. Could you tell me if you were able to image/restore successfully using clonezilla on iMacs? Do you have windows installed too in bootcamp ?

Which version of Clonezilla live did you try?
Did you try Clonezilla live 1.2.11-18 or 20111108-oneiric?
Steven.
Thanks for the fast response. I tried both
clonezilla-live-1.2.10-14-i686-pae
clonezilla-live-1.2.10-14-i486
as can be found here http://clonezilla.org/downloads/stable/iso-zip-files.php (first map)
OK, I tried the latest unstable version (1.2.11-18) and it works. Hopefully this will help someone else.

Always try the latest one. E.g. Clonezilla live 20130110-raring:

//NOTE// Backup important data before you use Clonezilla. Just in case.
