i've had a couple instances where I restore an image to a hard drive I previously wiped with DBAN. the cloned drive won't boot and I'm wondering if it's because it was basically a raw drive when I restored the image?

Try using GParted or similar right after the restore and "Repair MBR" option. Worked for me, but that was a year or so back and not longer sure of the Live version I used.

Also make sure you did not change the "Use MBR..." option for the restore, leave it at the default.

If all else fails, then maybe us GParted etc and create the Partion before the restore. Just a guess on that one.

" restore an image to a hard drive I previously wiped with DBAN. the cloned drive won't boot" -> What was the error message about failing boot? Is it an boot loader issue, or EFI NVRAM (if it's a uEFI machine) not configured issue?

    Steven.
