Quick Question: My office computer, the one I absolutely need to be able to restore to a point in time( when the Clonezilla images was made) is encrypted, there is a BIOS password before booting anything and I am pretty sure the drive itself is encrypted. Since we are copying Block for Block of the drive do you see any issue or know for a fact there are issues with encrypted drives utilizing CloneZilla.
Thanks for any info

It depends on the encryption. If it's encrypted in the block level, i.e. not over the file system, then Clonezilla will use dd to image that. If it's on the file system, i.e. the file system is still, for example, ntfs, then Clonezilla will use partclone to do the "smart" imaging.
Therefore basically Clonezilla should be able to deal that.
//NOTE// Backup important data before you use Clonezilla. Just in case.
Steven.

The bios password has nothing to do with the clonezilla. It's a bios password and you need to clear that first. Then you need to find out what the encryption key is for that encrypted drive which is different from the bios too. I'm glad that steven clear that up too. I thought he would be stuck, but once you clear the bios you should be able to proceed I believe.

Thanks...I don't think corporate would like me to disable the BIOS password and the software might interpret this as an attack and lock me out..But I will need to investigate the encryption they used and at what level. Thanks for the help and pointers. I will do Windows back up first at least I can get data back. But as you know I am trying to capture application configurations which are key to any restore.
thanks again.
