Ok, I've done some more investigating and found that it's a regression from partclone 0.2.91 to 0.3.6.

Thanks for your bug report. So you are sure it's not a hardware issue?
I found the error is:
Failed to load $MFT: Input/output error

Normally "Input/output error" is the hardware issue. Of course maybe I am wrong.
