I have traditionally used Norton Ghost for my three systems(XP, Server 2003, and Fedora) with a Ghost 2003 bootable "live CD" that I made. The Windows systems are configured with two NTFS partitions(one for OS and apps; other for data) and a FAT32 partition that does not have a drive letter assigned in Windows. The FAT32 partition contains a clone of the first NTFS partition. The same for Linux, except there are two ext3 partitions and a FAT32 partition.
Anyway, I have read that Ghost 2003 only works up to Windows XP, or, specifically, NTFS 3.1. Windows Vista uses NTFS 6.0, and, if you attempt to restore an NTFS 6.0 partition with an image, Ghost 2003 will corrupt it.
So, in a nutshell, does Clonezilla support NTFS 6.0? If not, what is the highest supported version? I believe Server 2003 uses NTFS 5.2.

I just tried Clonezilla "experimental" (2008-12-10) on my Vista system and it appears to have backed up without any complaints. That said, I didn't try restoring this recent backup, so I don't know how good it is. Maybe I should find out...

I did have some problems restoring vista images. For some reason the mbr seemed to get corrupt during the imaging (yes, even when re-cloning a working vista installation, and using the -t switch). I believe it relates to that some computer vendors have vendor specific stuff in the mbr. Not that i'd understand why it corrupts it if I tell clonezilla not to touch it. But i fixed it by saving the working mbr as a .bin file on the clonezilla server and re-copying the mbr-sectors by using $OCS_POSTRUN_DIR and dd.

Pelle,
If possible, could you please give testing Clonezilla live 1.2.1-52 a try ? It was released today and there are some bugs fixed about cloning MS windows.
Thanks.
Steven.

Someone did mention that they can successfully restore vista by using Clonezilla.
