I am trying to restore an image consisting of dual boot Ubuntu 14.04 with Windows 10 system using Clonezilla live but it is showing following error: "read ERROR: Out of streams resources"

    Please see the screenshot below:
    screenshot of the error

After pressing 'Enter' key, it was showing some other errors, such as following:
screenshot of the error shown after pressing enter key

I looked into log files but nothing interesting was found. Please see the screenshots below:

    clonezilla.log

I took the backup of / directory using Clonezilla live on Ubuntu 14.04. Windows 10 was installed on a separate partition and it was containing 2 partitions (drive C and drive D). In short, there was 4 partition, partition 1 was the swap, partition 2 was Ubuntu ext4, partition 3 and 4 was Windows NTFS. Now, I am trying to restore this whole image into my Ubuntu 14.04 running on Virtual Box.

Please note that the Ubuntu running on virtual box doesn't have the same configuration such as memory, user etc. Also, the Ubuntu running on the virtual box is having no NTFS partition.

Are you sure if the hard drive is flawless? The "Input/Ouput error" normally shows it's hardware issue.

    Hi Steven,

Thank you for answering the question. The hard disk is actually not a real hard disk drive, since I am using Virtual Box. So the hard disk is VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image).

I am experiencing a similar issue.
I have saved an image to an external USB3 SSD. The image contains a single partition. I can properly restore from that image from the external SSD. I have created a “recovery Clonezilla live” .iso and burned it to a dual layer DVD. When I attempt to restore from the DVD media I get the “read ERROR: Out of streams resources” error. I have recreated the .iso and burned the image to another brand of DVD and the error happens at 31.37% in both cases.

I just made a bootable USB using the same "recovery Clonezilla live" process.I can restore from the bootable USB but I cannot restore from the bootable DVD which was made from the same image! I can copy the entire contents of the DVD to the SSD using the same hardware so it doesn't appear to be an issue with the SSD, DVD or the optical reader.

I went backwards and created a .iso from the DVD and compared to the .iso created by Clonezilla Live (using Beyond Compare) and they are identical.

I'm not sure where to go from here.

Could you please give testing Clonezilla live 2.5.0-31 a try?
    http://clonezilla.org/downloads.php
The Partclone has been updated to 0.2.90 so the results might be different.
Please let us know the results. Thanks.

I tried to use clonezilla-live-20170626-zesty-i386.iso which has partclone v0.2.91.
After a sucess of sda3.ext3-ptcl-img.gz.aa and .ab on usbmemory, the beginning of
    restore to virtualbox's (sda3) partition, it stopped ! the error are as follows;
    read ERROR: No data available
    cat: /tmp/2017-06-30-02-f9-img-tmp-cnvted/sda3.ext3-ptcl-img.gz.aa:Input/Output error
    cat: /tmp/2017-06-30-02-f9-img-tmp-cnvted/sda3.ext3-ptcl-img.gz.ab:Input/Output error

    Elapsed:00:01:48 Remaining:01:29:52 Rate:110.68MB/min
    Current Block:48640 TotalBlock:2802688

I used fixed disk(.vhd) After this error, my sda3 partition(15.01GB)of virtualbox has
4.31GB unallocated space and 1.24GB unused. I don't know why this huge 4.31GB
    unallocated space grew up.

"Input/Output error" -> Normally this is related to the hardware issue. Are you sure your hard drive is flawless? Are you able to reproduce the issue on different machine?
