I did a backup of a partition from a physical machine using the multi-core compression option. I did the check at the end to see if the image was restorable and Clonezilla reported it OK. It was a 30G image with ~5G used.
I went to restore in a Virtual Box environment. I booted from the Clonezilla ISO and used a USB drive for the image. I was restoring to a 30G fixed size disk, all 30 were there. I had failures at random times in the restore process with the box being Aborted. In one failure, it did not abort and when I looked at partclone.log, it told me the file or directory did not exist (no mention of which). In playing with different settings, I changed the # of CP's to 2, and it got a lot further, but the box aborted near the end. Then I changed to more memory (2G vs 1G), and it aborted right as soon as the restore started.
In all I did 5 restores with various config's on the VM, reformatted disks, other backups, with default options, and none succeeded. I have to get work done and need to move on to another solution.

Looks like the connection between your machine and image repository is not good. Are you using network file server as image repository?
If so, check your physical hardware, like network switch and cable.
Another possibility is on the RAM integrity. You could run memtest on physical machine to do such a check.
