    I can't post my topic because it "looks like spam."

    What did you meant by "There is not a partimag or any other new file in Y:\\ directory, like before"?

    Steven.

    The first time I used clonezilla I created a whole disk image, saving it to Y:\. It created a folder of the name I chose in clonezilla (for example, Y:\disk) which had a ton of different files in it, along with creating a file name "partimag" in the Y:\ directory (not Y:\disk).

    Here is the file: http://i.imgur.com/jUJbl.png

    I deleted the above file and the image folder, and redid it creating two partition images, images of my only two partitions. I saved the images in Y:\C and Y:\D. THIS TIME, HOWEVER, no "partimag" file - like the one seen above - is in my Y:\ or Y:\C or Y:\D directories.

    So: Clonezilla made a file called "partimag" the first time in the parent directory (I think I'm using this term right) of the saved disk image folder, but didn't the second/third times I made images.

    A Backslash Problem
    I would like to repeat the details for your problem with the standard mode.

    #
    Start Clonezilla
    device-image
    local_device
    .. please insert an USB device .. or an unused HDD
    Now you can see an example
    sda1 ntfs_Windows_XP
    sda2 vfat_There_are_di
    sda5 ext4 Ubuntu12.04
    sdf1 vfat USB_Flash_Drive ->to save a whole disk image for sda1,sda2,sda5
    sdf1 repository
    Which directory is for the clonezilla image ..
    / Top_directory-in_the_local_device
    firstFolder Aug-20
    secondFolder Sep-30

      I can not see any Y:\ or Y:\disk\  Partition.

    Beginner mode: Accept the default options
    save_local-disk as an image
    savedisk: Input a name for the saved image to use
        2012-09-30-14-img

    *caution !* Do not change to
      Y:\disk\2012-09-30-14-img
    A backslash has often a different meaning
    \' -> '
    \d -> ?
    \2 -> ?

    partimag Y:\ only 4KB -> It is not an image.

    Hi bFusi, thanks for your reply.

    Unfortunately there has been a mixup. The backslashes I think you are referring to in the OP, are typos. I tried making a thread here, got told the thread couldn't post because "it looked like spam." The contents of my post were still in the edit/text box, but all ' or " or \ added a \ before it. So, for example, where it says "Y:\\C", it really means Y:\C".

    This is how my computer is: 2 drives, 3 partitions - C:\, D:\ (<- first drive), Y:\.
    1. When I used clonezilla the first time, I did beginner mode: whole disk clone and saved it as folder "disk" in the Y:\ directory (so the directory for the cloned image is the folder Y:\disk). That created the folder Y:\disk, which had what I assume was my whole-disk-image clone, ALONG WITH this "partimag" 4 KB file in the Y:\ directory.

    2. I deleted the above clone, and this time did expert ode: partition clone, ONLY MAKING it so it had no compression (expert mode option). I saved the 2 partition clones as folders named "C" and "D" in the Y:\ directory, so the directory of each clone was Y:\C and Y:\D. This time, no "partimag" file, like the one made in Attempt #1, was made.

    My questions:
    1. What is this file/do I need it to successfully restore my OS to a blank partition?

    Now I have understood your images for NTFS and FAT partitions.
    Your images are on the drive2 named Y: , in the folder C and D .

    For a better understanding I would rename your images:

    Folder c to c-img   #with sda1.ntfs-ptcl-img.uncomp… 29.4 GB
    Folder d to d-img   #with sda2.vfat-ptcl-img.uncomp… 7.32 GB

    Restart with Clonezilla CD
    start clonezilla
    device-image
    local_device
    (please insert USB device.. do nothing)
    press Enter key
    (sda1) # C:
    (sda2) # D:
    sdb1 # it is your drive2  Y:  with the images
    / top_directory.. # in your case Y: (your question)
    Beginner Mode
    restoreparts
    choose the image file to restore
    c-img
    d-img

    etc.
