I've been tinkering around with Clonezilla as a way to back-up my new Eee's Eeebuntu NBR system, and I've hit a bit of a snag. Poking around the forums and help files has yet to yield anything useful, so I figured I'd ask.
I have no problem creating an image of the hard drive with Clonezilla Live. I have no problem restoring the system from that image when it's on my external. However, after making a recovery .iso and putting it on a USB key with Unetbootin, I had a problem. Clonezilla did not recognize the flash drive that it was running off of, and thus could not find the image. What am I doing wrong? I feel like I must be missing something really obvious about how the recovery .iso works.

What's the error messages when you mentioned "Clonezilla did not recognize the flash drive that it was running off of, and thus could not find the image."?
How did you make the recovery .iso file? Please describe it step by step so it's easier for others to check that for you.
Steven.

No error comes up. What happens is that when it asks me to select a device as the location of the image, the flash drive is not an option (although it is, for some reason, an option as a destination for restored files). I've even tried running the recovery .iso on RAM and removing and reinserting the USB key to see if Clonezilla will detect it. There's no problem running Clonezilla that's part of the .iso. It's just that the application can't then find the actual image that's stored on the same device.
I made the recovery .iso as follows: after Clonezilla finishes the image of the hard drive's data (which is valid and usable in itself, I've tested it), I restart Clonezilla. When given the option to make an image, restore from image, etc., I choose to make a recovery .iso, stored in the same location (on an external hard drive) as the image. Once this is done, I shut down the Eee and remove both USB flash drive and external hard drive. I plug them both in to my main, Windows-running computer, and use Unetbootin to unpack the .iso to the flash drive (after deleting Clonezilla Live from it) and make it bootable. Upon testing the flash drive on my Eee, it boots correctly and Clonezilla runs, but it can't detect the image as described above (although the image files are viewable in Explorer on my other laptop).
I think that's about it, but if you need further details that I've forgotten, don't hesitate to ask.

Maybe this is kernel support issue. Please try to boot Clonezilla live 20090812-jaunty and see if your flash drive is found or not.
