I tried to create a ticket but no success, even though I have logged into sourceforge. Anyway, there is a silly bug in Clonezilla that would nice to fix.
Today I went to backup a 1 TB drive from a Mac Mini (it has 5 partitions on it -- 3 OS X versions, 2 Windows versions). I was backing up to a Samba share. After configuring and mounting my Samba share and selecting the Mac disk to backup, Clonezilla (any version, even the very latest -- I tried several) told me "Unknown Partition Table". Scrolling up on the command line output, I found the problem. The account I was using to mount the Samba share had Read Only access to the share. Clonezilla could not write the partition information file (there is an error that says "permission denied" when trying to write it).
The problem is, this error goes by so quickly that all you see is "Unknown Partition Table" when Clonezilla comes to a stop.
It would be better to a) warn you about the permission error when it happens and stop right there, or b) at least where it says "Unknown Partition Table" tell you "We don't know what the partition table is because the file we tried to write to record the partition table information doesn't exist, because we didn't have permission to write it".
A better error would have saved me the hour it took me to find the problem.

This issue was fixed in testing Clonezilla live, i.e. Clonezilla live 2.4.0-7, 20150330-*.
If you can, please give it a try and let us know the results.
Thanks.
Steven.

Thanks for reporting this. We will add some codes to check if the image repository is writable or not.
