Hi
I've got a Clonezilla on a live Cd and have been using it for a month to create images of my Opensuse system on a usb drive. I had a disaster recently and needed to restore the system. I had 2 images to to restore from. Neither has worked satisfactorily. One wouldn't run at all; whilst the second required a repair from the Opensuse install dvd to repair a corrupt disc.
In all cases, no errors were reported in taking or restoring the images, and the Opensuse system is really quite simple - single OS on 1 partition. I'm now very concerned that Clonezilla is actually offering me any reliable security. Should I dump it and look for another imaging solution ?

Well, if you can describe more about how it does not work there, e.g. where your opensuse stops after it's restored, maybe it helps.
Otherwise we can not do anything for you.
Steven.

Hi
The 1st image wouldn't boot and I found it impossible to repair Grub / MBR to make it boot. The 2nd image boots following restore, but then Clonezilla refused to back it up again, saying there was a disc error. I fixed this with the Opensuse DVD repair utility.
I'm really scratching around here looking for why Clonezilla seems to have made such a mess of the backup / restore process on a very simple configuration
Thanks

"saying there was a disc error" -> So did you try to test your system hardware integrity ?
At least do a memtest first, and use some tools to scan your disk to see if it's really a hardware issue or it's clonezilla issue.
Steven.
