    Hello.

I had a dual boot Mac with a Vista partition and a Mac-OS partition.

I now have a new iMac.

I used clonezilla to copy the Vista partition only, device to device.

All got copied fine, I ca see all the files on the partition.

    But Vista will not boot.

    Please help.

    Thanks.

    Antoine Savine from London.

Please tell us more about your boot loader settings and the error messages so it's easier for us debug.

      Steven.

I got the same problem when cloning Vista to a larger disk (I did a disk-to-disk clone).  When booting Vista failed to boot and prompted for inserting a Vista Installation DVD in order to "Repair your computer".  I followed the instructions and did the "Repair Your computer".  The repair found a problem with an entry in the boot loader.  Sorry I did not write down the entire log message because I was too eager to see if the fix worked.  And it DID !!!  I was able to boot into the cloned drive.  There was another glitch those.  The first time the computer boot after the clone, it found a new hardware (probably the new hard disk) and installed driver for it.  Then it asked to reboot the computer which I did but received "You do not have permission to perform the operation".  I had to log off and reboot the computer from the login screen.  After that everything worked fine.  I could see an expected larger C: partition.  However, since I did a disk-to-disk copy (with -k1 option) and my old hard driver have two paritions, both paritions were copied over with proportional sizes.

BTW, I have a Dell Vostro 410 computer running Vista 64-bit with 8GB RAM with Intel RAID support (but none of my disks are in RAID mode).

      Hope this help.

        Lamsao,
So you mean after you used Vista Installation DVD to repair the computer, it boots and everything run smoothly?

        Steven.

I am also having issues with a Vista clone.  I did a straight disk-to-disk from a 350gb to 1tb drive.  After the clone was complete, I attempted to boot to the new clone and it perpetually reboots after it appears to try to run the bootloader.  I'm not even getting to the Repair your computer" screen like the guy above.  I can switch back to the original drive and it boots fine.

Now when I boot off of the LiveCD, I'm getting all kinds of I/O errors for the hda drive.

    Any suggestions?

In addition to what I mentioned above, if I boot to the original with the new clone also connected, both of it's partitions appear and I can connect and browse the drives as normal.  There just appears to be an issue with the boot loader or boot sector.

How about try to use your windows CD to boot it, then fix the boot loader?

    Steven.

    Hi All:

Just wanted to revive this thread to mention that I had the same issue when running a drive-to-drive clone using the advanced mode with -k1 option (60GB to 320GB HDD).  The tutorial for drive-to-drive suggested using the -k1 option to upscale the partition allocations proportionately, but I encountered errors in the process (they scrolled too quickly to really take note, however).  Once I rebooted with the new drive, it became stuck in a loop trying to load windows vista from the bios.

After going back and recloning the new drive using the beginner's settings, I noticed no errors as before and was able to start up vista without any problems.  However, my C: allocation was the same as the old drive (60GB), so to take care of the unallocated space, I used Easus Partition Manager.  Everything appears okay now.

I'm very new to this and it's my first attempt, but I just thought I'd share this experience for future reference to others experiencing the same problem.

Thanks for sharing that. If you have a chance to do it again, and if this problem is reproducible, please let us know so that we can improve that.

    Steven.
