I'm working off a Clonezilla Live disk - actually in the Parted Magic Recovery System - and cloned a laptop HDD onto an external HDD. Both were 250GB. The source drive, in the laptop, had bad sectors at around 56% of the drive, which put the bad sectors at the end of the C partition. They did affect some files in the Windows directory.
The job went fine until 94%, and then hung. I guess that corresponds to the bad sectors?
IAC, I turned off Clonezilla and switched the drives. Lo and behold I seem to be up and running, though I haven't run extensive tests. Can anyone explain what happened and whether this job is probably a success or not?
Thanks.
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
-Make a backup of your important data, videos, photos, .. to an other external drive.
-Then use Windows 7 - Defragmentation and Checking (now without videos,.. )
-Start clonezilla live to 'savedisk' in 'beginner mode' .
In the case of difficulties look in your image folder '2013-01-…' :
inf-saved-by-cmd.txt
sda-pt.parted.compact #can you open with shift-button + context menu, choice 'wordpad'
sda3.ntfs-ptcl-img.gz.aa
sda4.dd-img.aa # is there anything on your external drive ?

Thanks, I'll hold onto this for future use. The machine in question seemed to be behaving well, with no apparent damage.
