When it comes to just mounting the clonezilla.img, there is a lot around on how to do that, and I have done that previously, but this is a whole new issue!
An ex-employee left us his files on a clonezilla image, that he had extracted and zipped. So I'm left with the files from the image, instead of the image itself. Is it possible to recreate the image to then mount? Or can I mount it as it is somehow?

Sorry. No such solution to mount the image directly. As shown here:

Due to the image format limitation, the image can not be explored or mounted. You can _NOT_ recovery single file from the image. However, you still have workaround to make it, read this.
