    Hi to all,
i use often Clonezilla at work, but when i try to clone disk with bad sector (specially with NTFS fs), cloning job fail. If i use Acronis TrueImage instead, i receive an error when he try to copy damaged sectors, but the other sectors are cloned right. There are any option to bypass this problem ? Thank's to all.

There is a -rescue option in "Expert" mode which is supposed to do what you're asking for.

First you should select "Expert" mode instead of Beginner one when asked.
After you select source and destination drive/partition - a list of options appears: one of them is -rescue
    Which version do you use?

Yes, i use the procedure you describes, but there isn't the option -rescue (there are -b, -v, -g auto, etc.). I use the last Clonezilla live stable release (1.2.3-27)

Could you describe all the options you choose to clone your disk.

In fact I think the options you've mentioned are relevant for restore from image operation. What are you actually trying to achieve? Initially I supposed you're trying to clone from bad disk device to good disk device, but maybe you're doing something else (e.g. disk -> image file; image file - > disk, etc.).

No, the options i've mentioned are about disk cloning operation. I'm trying to clone bad disk to good one. I go in expert mode, and i use this options: -g auto, -v and other i don't remember but my question is: where is -rescue?

    Just tested this:
    * Boot from clonezilla-live-1.2.3-27.iso (image downloaded yesterday)
    1. Choose language - default (en_US.UTF-8)
    2. Don't touch keymap
    3. Start Clonezilla
    4. device-device
    5. Expert
    6. disk_to_local_disk
    7. select source disk (e.g. hdb)
    8. select target disk (e.g. sda)
    9. Here is the screen with available options:
    -g auto
    -e1 auto
    -e2
    -j2
    -r
    -nogui
    -m
    -rescue
    -fsck-src-part
    -o
    -b
    -v
(Try to scroll up/down if you don't see these all)
    10. Some settings for target partition table
    11. Confirmation screen. You can see the generated command line. For rescue - it contains "-rescue" option.

So you see what options I can get - if you don't seem them, maybe you're hitting some issue with the wizard. If this is the case - you can still use the command-line and add "-rescue" option yourself.

    Regards,
    Javor

    Hello!
I also have a drive with bad sectors which I want to clone to an image on an bigger external drive for later recovery attempts.
I choose the option savedisk and under expert I select the -rescue option.

Is this correct in order to get a 1:1 image copy?
    Thank you.

I'm using the latest version, amd64 ISO build.

I have a laptop 100GB SATA drive that I'm trying to clone and even though I enabled the -rescue option, it refuses to get past the first bad sector that it hit.  I had to clone a different drive last night and it got past the sector errors that it hit.

Add. Sense: Unrecovered read error - auto reallocate failed

I went through the process of running the XP chkdsk on the drive and managed to get it to repair, but I still can't get past this sector.  I can access the HDD just fine under XP, but it obviously has issues.

    What next?  Am I screwed?

The rescue function of partclone is not as good as ddrescue or gddrescue. Therefore you'd better to try ddrescue or gddrescue. These two packages are available in Clonezilla live, too.

I did a search on clonzilla.org and got zero hits for ddrescue.  I did not see any reference to ddrescue in the live doc web page.  So, I am cluless as to where to find it within clonezilla live.

How do you tell the program, once it has been booted (I used a CD) to use ddrescue instead of partclone?

From digging into the live architecture, it is Linux afterall :-)  I found the program and it seems that I have to run it manually as the main program doesn't have an option to use it instead, at least not that I've noticed.

I have it running and it is getting past the bad areas.  It is going to take a while, but it should do the job.

    Thanks.

Final post.  Drive is up and running.  The laptop is working again.  Thanks for the tip about ddrescue, that did the trick.

Quick question - can ddrescue be used to copy to an image as opposed to directly to another disk or disk partition? The official manual for ddrescue (http://www.gnu.org/software/ddrescue/manual/ddrescue_manual.html) doesn't mention images at all, so I was worried about trying to write to an image file on a disk that has important data on it that I do NOT want to overwrite. In other words, I want do do something like:

    ddrescue /dev/hda /dev/hdb/my_disk_images/hdimage logfile.txt

where hdb is a drive that has other important info in it. Will this work? Or will ddrescue ignore my subfolder designation, and instead just overwrite hdb entirely?

    THanks,
    -Robert

Yes, you can use ddrescue to dump the harddrive or partition as an image file IIRC.
//NOTE// Please backup important data before you use tools like dd, ddrescue or Clonezilla. It might destroy everything on a harddrive if you give wrong command.

    Steven.

Pst file is very important, it contains Many Important emails, contacts so on. Due to virus attack or any reasons , it can be corrupt or damage . This situation is not good for anyone and may it be the reason of loss of data. So one should use Outlook Pst File Repair to get back lost pst files.

    Hi there!

I have a 160G Samsung ATA Disk on XP and HDtune says there is a bad sector. Running now clonzilla live with the -rescue option. The setup is that the new disc is created on the fly, i.e. no image but direct transfer.
Since 2 hours I am getting a screen like in the picture attached. The screen moves forward so something seems to happen.
But I am not sure why there is kind of two screens on top of each other. The warning-bar and the highlighted info is on top of the regular screen display.
Am I doing the right stuff? How could I find out how far the process is already and how long it is estimated to take?

p.s. how can I upload a picture here? it gives only the http-option, but the picture I want to show you is on the disk (different computer than that on which clonzezilla is running currently.)

I write down some of the messages, as I find no way to to upload a jpg:
Buffer I/O errror on device sda1, logical block 9885128
sd 0:0:0:0  Add. Sense: Unrecovered read error - auto reallocate failed
