    Greetings, folks!

I am trying to clone a hard drive that has some bad sectors (and Windows Vista won't load as a result), but most of the files seem to still be accessible. I started to use Clonezilla, but after I get to the boot screen and choose a Clonezilla version to use, I am met with this error:

    "Boot Failed!
This Debian Live image failed to boot.
    The error was:
Unable to find a medium containing a live file system."

1: I tried using all 3 different versions of 8.3-23
    2: I also tried using 20110328-maverick.
3: Did a checksum for all iso images before burning; all came out a match
4: Verified the discs after burning.
5: I can mount the hard drive in PuppyLinux just fine and browse the files without a problem.
6: I tried using the failsafe mode on all of the discs, and all of them came up with the error.

Before I use up all of the CD-Rs in the house trying to get this to work, I was hoping one of you all could send me in the right direction. Is there anything I can do to make this work?

I also received a similar error when I used the maverick version:
"mount: mounting /dex/sr0 on live/image failed: invalid argument"

Any thoughts and/or assistance for this newbie would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your time!
    Cassie

For anyone that has this same problem, I never resolved it using a CD. However, booting up with a USB stick of Clonezilla worked beautifully.

Since you are the first one to mention this CD issue, I guess the problem might be on the hardware. Did you try to use a different brand of CD-ROM drive?

    Steven.

Huh. Never occurred to me that the CD-Rom drive could be the issue, so I never tried to use a different drive. PuppyLinux, Knoppix, and Ubuntu all work via the CD-Rom drive though, so I just assumed that the drive was in working order. I'll try again for testing purposes sometime later this evening.

    Thanks for the suggestion. :]

Different kernel might have different situations… So it's just a guess :)

This was a good suggestion, and for some reason didn't occur to me.

In my instance I had a USB CD drive handy, and Clonezilla ran perfectly first try this way.

Now I'm curious to find out why this drive is no good, as I have installed the system via it, burnt many a media, all without issue… it's just Clonezilla Live so far that has trouble with it. Its Pioneer DVR-218BK for reference, quite solid from my experience with them, 5+ computers using them now.

Hope this helps someone else, and thanks to Steve and others for your help.

    Cheers
    Cam.

Or you can try different versions of Clonezilla live… :)
They might come with different versions of Linux kernel.

As it turns out the issue lies with the file system on the CD. Make sure that you are using Joilet on top of ISO because Clonezilla has file names that are longer than what ISO will allow and in my experience was the reason I was getting that error.

"Boot Failed! This Debian Live image failed to boot. The error was: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system."
Asked me to inform Debian guys. So here I am. This image worked well with new hardware(Desktop) built 3 months back. However the Lenovo Y530 laptop I go tthe following error white rebooting from the same CD(image 2.1.1-7). Googled and found the USB boot instructions. I created the USB bootable and reboot on windows XP lenovo laptop. It rebooted and I  went through creating image from hda2 then hda1.  Saveparts  then imagename  then skip  checking,,,,, source file system    Then  Yes, check the saved image   then got error   " /home/partimag/2013-03-22-23-img/info-lspci.txt no such file or directory".
    (a) I think  your CD iso version is buggy, got to be fixed. (b) now the USB  booting doesn't create the partimage(partition image).   I have been using the clonezilla for long time but seems like your  software is confused with the new hardware

This looks like the linux kernel does not support your hardware.
Did you try newer version of Clonezilla live? e.g. 20130329-raring?
It comes with newer Linux kernel, so it might support your hardware better.

    Steven.
