So your machine is using uEFI booting. Since you disabled secure boot, you can use any version of Clonezilla live AMD64 release.
Not sure if your problem is about hardware, however, give Clonezilla live 20140407-trusty-amd64, 20140407-saucy-amd64, or 2.2.2-35 amd64 a try. They comes with newer Linux kernel so it might help.

Can you please send a link to download this file to a bootable USB? I too get the saucy login error. I am trying to use clonezilla live to create an image of a surface pro running windows 10.
Well, I now have the file Clonezilla live 2.2.2-35 iso image. Is there another file that is needed since in boot menu it looks for usb first but continues on to windows 10. I need it to point to the iso image what tool do I need installed on the usb to do that?

You can find Clonezilla live here: http://clonezilla.org/downloads.php
Please give the latest one a try. 2.2.2-35 is too old so it's not easy for us to fix.

I tried all three, but only 2.2.2-35 amd64 worked. The two Ubuntu based live iso's end with the login screen. I have added a screenshot to the OP of the login screen I mentioned.
I wonder if the login screen has something to do with my laptop using a 1920x1080 resolution? The clonezilla logo is layered over the info for each menu choice. I added two screenshots to this post to explain.
I still wonder why Ubuntu 12.04 boots without a problem and Ubuntu based clonezilla cannot boot? So far so good.
Now that I could start clonezilla I have a new question. I'll open a new post for it.
I am trying to start clonezilla on my new Windows 8 based system. But I get stuck at a saucy login prompt?
I am trying clonezilla-live-20140331-saucy-amd64.iso and the md5sum matches.
Help?! I really hope someone can help me get clonezilla running!
I first get the message:
Could not open "\EFI\BOOT\fallback.efi": 14
error: variable 'root' isn't set.
Next I get to choose which clonezilla I wish to run. Looks like:
http://clonezilla.org/screenshots/?op=show&filepath=./album//00_Clonezilla/03_clonezilla-live-boot-submenu-gra.png
When I choose the top one (800x600) I get a login prompt:
Ubuntu 13.10 saucy tty1
saucy login:
I have disabled 'secure boot' in my uefi.
I have tried Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (64bit) as well and it does run without a problem.
The system is a Medion Akoya P2211T laptop/tablet hybrid:
