Hello,

When running Clonezilla Live on my Apple Macbook Pro A1502 13" Retina Mid 2014 Laptop the font in Grub and Clonezilla is tiny.

Selecting any of the Clonezilla grub menu options which should affect the display mode makes no difference.

This is on the current 3.1.0-22 version of Clonezilla Live.

How about testing Clonezilla live, i.e., >= 3.1.1-10?

    Hi Steven,

    v3.1.1-10 does not complete booting.

The DVD drive light periodically flashes a few times then goes off then the cycle of the flashing and off repeats continuously.

I found the same problem where Clonezilla never completes starting up on the Stable v3.1.0-22 i686-pae and amd64 versions. The only release that would boot was the Stable v3.1.0-22 i686.

Seems like it is looping on a startup instruction.

I believe this is related to Linux kernel/hardware support issue.
    How about alternative Clonezilla live?
20230807-* or 20230426-lunar? Here you can find them:

    Hello Steven,

alternative stable - 20230426-lunar - Small Font, but it fully boots which stable - 3.1.0-22 amd64 does not fully boot.

alternative testing - 20230807-lunar - Small Font but it doesn't fully boot, similar problem to stable - 3.1.0-22 amd64

alternative testing - 20230807-mantic - Small Font, but it fully boots which stable - 3.1.0-22 amd64 does not fully boot.

So let's focus on alternative testing - 20230807-mantic. When you mentioned "small font", which boot menu did you choose?
Could you please take photos about the steps you have chosen, then post them?

    Hello Steven,

I've attached some photos of the screen.

    My testing found:

    1) Clonezilla live (VGA 800x600) - Small font
    2) Clonezilla live (VGA 800x600 & To RAM) - Small font
    3) Clonezilla live (VGA with large font & To RAM) - When it is loading the files to RAM and once in the "Start Clonezilla" screen - Acceptable (normal) font size but all other times Small font
    4) Other modes of Clonezilla live - Clonezilla live (VGA 1024x768) - Small Font
    5) Other modes of Clonezilla live - Clonezilla live (VGA 640x480) - Small Font
    6) Other modes of Clonezilla live - Clonezilla live (KMS) - grub Small Font. Clonezilla splash-screen corrupts immediately upon selecting the grub option to load. Once it begins to load and once Clonezilla is loaded Small Font
    7) Other modes of Clonezilla live - Clonezilla live (KMS & To RAM) - When it is loading the files to RAM - Acceptable (normal) font size but all other times Small font
    8) Other modes of Clonezilla live - Clonezilla live (KMS with large font & To RAM) - grub Small Font. Clonezilla splash-screen corrupts immediately upon selecting the grub option to load. When it is loading the files to RAM and once in the "Start Clonezilla" screen Acceptable (normal) font size but all other times Small font
    9) Other modes of Clonezilla live - Clonezilla live Safe graphic settings (vga=normal) - Small Font

All the Small Font entries are demonstrated in the first 2 photos. Note whenever Small Font is mentioned all the entries are exactly the same size, selecting different resolutions from grub makes no difference.

The third photo is whereever I had stated the Acceptable (normal) font size.

I suspect there isn't a specific display driver for this Mac.

    fbagnato

"I suspect there isn't a specific display driver for this Mac." -> I believe so.
One workaround for you. If you accept to use network connection, after booting into command line prompt of Clonezilla live, run:
    1. sudo -i
    2. dhclient -v eth0 (if you have DHCP server in the LAN)
    or
ocs-live-netcfg (configure network for static IP address, etc.
    3. passwd user (To change the password for user "user")
    4. service ssh start
    5. ip add eth0 (to get the IP address for ethernet card)
Now you should be able to use ssh to login the Mac running Clonezilla live from other machine by:
    ssh user@IP_OF_MAC
    6. To start Clonezilla, just run:
    sudo clonezilla

    Hello Steven,

    I will consider that.

However I am happy to run alternative testing - 20230807-mantic and selecting Clonezilla live (VGA with large font & To RAM) as it is only the initial loading that is tiny. Once it gets to the "Start Clonezilla" screen the font size is acceptable.

I reported the problem to give you a heads up about it. I still could use it to backup the Mac.

    Regards,

    fbagnato
