I managed to boot the clonezilla live cd on my new Alienware M17 computer, its a Vista 64bit and has two raio 0 drives identified as sda and sdb but stated as unknown size even thought the drive label as been identified. got to the stage where the message saying the command line-input to say the following /opt/drbl/sbin/ocs-sr -q -c -j2 -z2 -i -0 -p poweroff savedisk "2009.05-01-97-img" "sda sdb"
when upon entering, it displays the sequence of actions and reactions and stops with a line in red says "no input device".
there is no log files on usb drive i am saving too.
I did a test run on another computer with a signle ide drive and the clong was successful.
My guess its related to SATA II raid 0 drive setup. I am very impressed with clonezilla its pretty idiot proof. can you help

So far Clonezilla does not work with RAID device very well.
Anyway, could you please tell us which version of Clonezilla live are you using ?
Also please boot Clonezilla live, enter command prompt, then
    1. sudo -i
    2. cat /proc/partitions
    3. parted -s /dev/sda print
    parted -s /dev/sdb print
    4. blkid

Please post the results of 2-4.

    Steven.

    Something werid in /dev/sda...
    Could you please run:
    1. parted -s /dev/sda print (please notice the spaces... Do not put them together).
    2. fdisk -l /dev/sda

    Then post your results.

    results are as follows:

    1. can't have a partition outside the disk

    2. disk /dev/sda: 250.0 GB, 250059350016 bytes

Parted reported that your /dev/sda has wrong partition table, although fdisk can show that.
I suggest that you can use another partition tool (GParted live, maybe, or any other tool you have on MS Windows) to check that. Make sure the layout of the partition size is flawless.

  • Nobody/Anonymous

as advised using GParted live, got it to boot so I am asking myself what is a flawless layout partition size.
Partition File Label Size Used Unused Flags
    System
    /dev/mapper/isw_bddfecdgi_volume01 ntfs 455.92GB 133.20GB 322.72 GB
    /dev/mapper/isw_bddfecdgi_volume02 nfts Respawn Recovery 9.84GB 5.07GB(used) 4.77GB (unused)

I suspect it could be the partition which respawn recovery package is sited by the manufacturer that maybe stumbling clonezilla?
I have no plans to use main becuase i wanted to be able to clone the drive whenever i need it instead of use once only. Can you help?

Maybe it's because /dev/mapper/isw_bddfecdgi_volume02 nfts Respawn Recovery 9.84GB
5.07GB(used) 4.77GB (unused). However, another problem is, so far Clonezilla live does not support the device name like "/dev/mapper/isw_bddfecdgi_volume02", only /dev/[hs]d[a-z] is supported. One possibility is to modify /opt/drbl/sbin/create-cciss-mapping so it can map your device as /dev/[hs]d[a-z], or you have to wait for Clonezilla to suupport RAID in the future.
    Sorry for that.

    Steven.

I also have similar problem with my desktop with 2 raid 0 x2 drives per raid, recently rebuilt, raid 1 is the main bootable drive for xp, when running clonezilla it also display the same error message 'no input device'. I guess my comment on the respawn partition is in error.

I hope that the next version will resolve this issue, i think its a good cloner, simple and easy to use. Thanks for your advice.

Now I realise that actually your case is not "linux softaware RAID", it's hardware RAID. For Linux software RAID, the device name is like "/dev/md0, /dev/md1...", in your case, it's /dev/mapper/...
The problem now is we do not have such RAID card so it's not easy for me to try and develop that.

My is a AdaptecI host raid card is in even worst. I believe there is no link driver for the Adaptec 1420SA. I suppose when I upgrade my motherbaord with a raid on board, i can free this card for your to develop a solution as i suppose there be loads of people looking for this to work.

It means there is no hard drive that Clonezilla can find.
Try to use testing Clonezilla live:
    http://clonezilla.org/downloads.php
It comes with newer Linux kernel so it might support your hardware better.

    Steven.
