I'm trying to make a backup of an Acer Aspire Desktop AXC-603G-UW12. To boot clonezilla, I have to go in Windows 8 charm "settings" control panel, go into recovery options, and tell it to reboot from usb. After I'm in the clonezilla interface, I can save the partitions with this command:

I'm using a full disk clone saved to an image on another drive. I noticed that very quickly, before the saving process took place, some messages about not being able to determine the partition size (?). I think this may be part of the problem.

When I try to restore the image, I get a series of error messages:

Hmm sorry about the images, I'll try to turn them around.

edit: Sorry not sure what's wrong. The first 2 images should be the pre-reimaging and the last 2 post-reimaging.

edit2: I was able to get another screenshot of the problem on another computer running Windows 8. This picture is from when I tried to restore the image.

Apparently there is no any partition on your /dev/sda. Do you know its layout?
Or it can not be recognized by GNU/Linux?

    Steven.

Well there's definitely partitions there because it saved 5 of them but fails to restore them. If you're talking about partitions on the target drive, then why should it matter what is on there if it is going to be wiped and re-imaged anyway? In this instance they are actually identical drives. I also tried doing a direct disk to disk procedure which also failed in a similar fashion. The Windows 7 system image program correctly backs up the disk as do other programs like WD's cloning utility.

edit: Sorry I guess in my first screenshots that is of the restore command. I don't know why I said save command.

I won't have access to the computers until Wednesday but I will do it then.

Somehow when GPT partition table was rebuild on the destination disk, it failed.
Which version of Clonezilla live did you use?
Please make sure it's the latest stable one.

    Steven.

Ok, I've used the alternate stable version and it has succeeded in cloning the image but I still get that error message. I apologize for the very poor image quality. The first image is of saving the image and the second is when trying to restore the image.

I've tried the same clonezilla alternate stable image on an HP Windows 8 laptop and still get the same error.

EDIT: I'm trying an alternate image but I'm having to edit this post because I can no longer post a new one??

This issue is weird. Maybe give testing Clonezilla live a try:
    http://clonezilla.org/downloads.php
//NOTE// Backup important data before you use Clonezilla. Just in case.

    Steven.
