I noticed that some descriptions of switches are too long when using the default settings and resolution of 800*600.

That's true. Dialog/whiptail can not deal with that when using 800x600 or 600*480. Therefore just use 1024x768.
Some day when dialog or whiptail is improved. this issue will be gone.
