So you mean you use grub2 in your Mandriva 2008.1 box ? If so, yes, Clonezilla live is based on Etch, so only grub is available. grub2 will be included in the future, maybe in the release based-on Lenny.

sorry grub2 is not the default install.. so I will give you the exact context of the probleme.
Mandriva 2008.1 64bits with grub 0.97.22mdv
sda1 8GB swap
sda2 64GB ext3
(no extended partitions)
I found a workaround: I restore with not the default clonezilla g option, then I boot from the mdv DVD and choose rescue system, then restore boot loader...
with the g option of clonezilla, even the mdv boot loader restore fails....
thanx for the help,...
I will be pleased if i can restore it with only clonezilla, and without having to boot on another DVD and use another tool

The grub in stable Clonezilla live is older than yours. Maybe you can give experimental Clonezilla live a try, which is based on Ubuntu 8.10 alpha. Therefor the grub is newer.

Tried the experimental clonezilla :
1) Crashed (with garbage display) on 1024x768 (ACER Aspire 2920 laptop Intel X3100)
800x600 worked ok
2) Now grub is functionnal but the nice mandriva graphical boot screen has been replaced with a "very light" console mode one...
thanx
Yes. The grub sometimes is different in your distribution and the one from Debian or Ubuntu. Especially the case you mentioned "splashimage".
