Dear Developers, For those who don't I remind again, issues are being moved to Github as I will close trac soon. So please report there in future. We might close many parts in SF or maybe everything, but that's still undecided. Regards and happy new 2012! - Gerhard Stein |

I'll be around in 2012 too of course. I'm having less time learning to program C++ that I thought, I'm moving slowly but steadily. I'll be around as tester as usual of course. ________________________________ Von: "clo...@li..." <clo...@li...> An: clo...@li... Yeah, that counts and I'm happy, that you are willing to improve it. We need to see how to do that in future, because I plan to migrate the project to Github and use Github-Pages. http://pages.github.com/ Is this Information and what github offers useful for you? I certainly am around and watching the status of the project. I definitely will support any of the ports that i have released in the the past. I could also support other tasks if they are descriptive enough. Although I do have some other projects that i have ongoing that would higher priority at the moment. Its good to here you hear you continue to maintain the project and have even more ideas to improve it. in it, but that's okay... :-)

Hey Gerd,
I'm pretty sure that it used to be called Mode, but when you added the Sounblaster/Adlib Or PC Speaker option, you changed that to be called mode, and changed the channels text in one place but not the other.
I don't think it makes a huge difference as far as the variable names go, but if you want to change them go ahead.
I got it to build finally, and I uploaded it to SourceForge.
Thanks,
Chad

Hi Chad,
I don't want to get strict, but quite now I don't get the difference
between "Mode:" and "Channels:". "Channels" is better I think as you
changed it. Should we also change the variable names?
Should we even use the word "mode" for something related to Audio?
Btw. I hope you got the code compiled this time :-)

Gerd

Hi, well, I have nothing against it. I also would be the last guy who wouldn't allow that. Nevertheless, I really won't have time and need to have my energies on the Galaxy code stuff. However, if someone wants to transit it for LLVM Magic I have nothing against it. Because until I get there, other things will be done first. Regards... Hi, I had the discussion with some of you about LLVM and why it is so great. The most important thing which is often misunderstood is that LLVM is not just a compiler but a framework. I found a good site which describes all of it and its benefits. http://www.aosabook.org/en/llvm.html Btw., for OLX, I already planned since some time to integrate LLVM more deeply into OLX itself. For example, we could have all the physics simulation code as LLVM bitcode and then when we load the game mod, we could generate specialized native code for the mod on the fly. But I have also many more ideas how we could use LLVM. E.g. we could have some own customized build system based on LLVM with some optimizations specialized for OLX which generates LLVM bitcode. And we could share this build for all platforms, i.e. it contains all platform independent OLX code. And then there might be small loaders for the specific platform which load this bitcode and compile it to native code on the fly when run. The benefit is that it could make debugging easier, we could easier check that it is well optimized, it is more deterministic/similar behavior for all platforms, it makes the building easier (the loader probably doesn't need to be updated very often and people only need to use our custom LLVM based build system for development), this also makes it easier for newcomer developers, etc. Also, we could maybe recompile some more of the code (not just the physics) in more specialized versions at runtime for better performance. Maybe we could introduce some attribute which we could put into the source like __attribute__("jit_recompile_specialized", params:{x,y}) or so and this is passed to our loader system which does all the rest automatically. Also, this way, it still should be compilable with regular compilers. I will probably experiment with some of this at some point. Cya, Albert |
