The ability to open and close the directory pane was the second most used button for me after the 'up' button and I'd dearly like to see it in your classic set.

I'd like to say that like much of Win 7, the MS rewrite of explorer is superficial and thoughtless. It looks and feels like a novice created it, which I find astounding for such a long standing code base, affecting as it does, so many of its users. Win 7 is a careless bodge offering from a company that is surrounded by some very competent competitors.

There is no programmable way to toggle the directory pane but it's just a registry tweak away. See this topic: http://sourceforge.net/projects/classicshell/forums/forum/1049755/topic/3932317 and let me know if you could add a "Navigation pane" button to the command bar.

At present time I am unaware of any way to programmatically toggle the navigation pane. Sorry.

Good news. The latest Classic Shell 4.0.6 has a built-in button now to toggle the folder/navigation pane as well as the Details pane and the Preview pane.
