Configuration options to display search results not in pop-up menu, but in one of column of main menu (like in Win7), determined by COLUMN_SEARCHREPLACE_UP or COLUMN_SEARCHREPLACE_DOWN element, where first will replace all menu elements up to column break with search results and second all menu elements down.

This is the only thing I'm missing in Classic Shell. I just donated $10 to the project. Hopefully this request gets noticed...

    Thanks for the great work!

Why do you believe this is better than the current implementation?
"But Windows 7 does it like that" doesn't count.

I just don't understand this attitude of "just because win7 does it" invalidates a feature request. That is very short sighted and non-productive. Many people want consistency between environments. Personlly I have no issues with the Win7 start menu. Works very well for me, and I want that functionality replicated on Win8.

It doesn't invalidate the feature request. It invalidates the argument.
I want an objective reason why the proposed solution is better than the current search implementation. Will it provide better usability? Will it be more aesthetically pleasing?

There are many reasons why not make the classic start menu that way (it will limit the configurability, it will increase the requirements for the skins, make all existing skins incompatible, and more). If you give me specific reasons or problems you want to solve, maybe I can find a solution that fits into the current design. "but I want it like Win7" is not productive.

The main reason is that I use several computers every day (both Win7 and Win8) and I'd like them to behave the same. I find inconsistent user-interface to be counterproductive. and I don't think I'm alone in this preference. Regardless of the many great features of Classic Shell, I'm not using it because the Win7 Start Menu is broken or unsatisfactory, but because solely it's missing from Win8.

In addition, I find the clean search result list in Win7 to be easier to focus on and more visually appealing than the overlapping sub-menu in Classic Shell.
