I upgraded from Classic Shell 3.1 to 3.5. First, it crashed my system. It
wiped out the entire task bar. After a restart, that all came back. But ctrl-
esc no longer opens the Start menu, and I cannot find a setting for this. I
turned on shift-winkey, but this also fails. Click and middle-click and hover
all work, they all open the Start menu.
Also, the load time on boot or restart is now quite long; the Start menu
displays mostly a couple of white boxes for quite some time, then eventually
the normal CS Start menu returns.
What version of Windows are you using?
There aren't many performance differences between 3.1 and 3.5. The main
difference is the auto-update feature. You can disable it from Classic Shell
-> Update Settings in the start menu. Uncheck "Automatically check for new
