Is there a way in Classic Shell to search within files? For example, finding
all Word files (*.docx) that contain a particular word? The old "Search Files
containing" feature seems to be gone.

Windows Search actually has the ability to search inside files but the
interface sucks. It would be nice if Classic Shell included a front-end with a
better GUI for Windows Search.

Well good news for you. Now the latest public beta version of Classic Shell which is available from the home page has full Windows Search integration, including document search. Try it if you are interested.
