I think it should be able to choose in the software that you
    want Automatic update or not.

And if you stop AutoUpdater there should be no nag or
annoying screen like what M$ did with it shamefull XP's
    AutoUpdate.

Yes please! My step mother has an ADSL connection,
but stays offline unless when really surfing on internet.
And she needs something simple. An automatic update
on internet connection would be the perfect choice.

Thanks for your work on ClamWin!

If you want to do that NOW, there is a tool called
Afterconnect that will allow you to run a script or
executable upon detection of a network connection. Maybe
    that's a temporary solution for
    this...http://www.snapfiles.com/get/aftercon.html

    Good Luck

At the very least I'd like to see a silent re-try ability. I
frequently bring my laptop out of standby to find an error
message that it could not update simply because it tried
before the wifi connection could be reestablished. If it
would just wait 20 min or so and try again I'd never notice
and the job would get done. Allowing the time and
max-retries to be configured to extremely high numbers would
let those on PPP connections find settings that fit their
    situation as well
