are there any plans on implementing the ISO 8601 standard for handling datetime strings ?

this seems to be a widely implemented "non-standard" standard ;)

Absolutely none, ever, under any circumstances.
This is a JSON library, not a date handling library.
It implements the JSON specification, and it's written in C.
The clue is in the name.
