CiteSpace found no valid items to display

    Hello all,

I recently downloaded CiteSpace 5.6 R5 version and started reading all the online papers and other tests as well studied step-by-step the videos uploaded by Prof. Chen.
After a few trial-and-error attempts I managed to get visualizations and clusters for several sets of references (downloaded from Scopus in .ris format). However, today I keep getting the message 'CiteSpace found no valid items to display'.
I lower the threshols but still the same. I also access Scopus from a different browser and download the references from there, but no success. The time limit is correct.

The 1st step I do after I download the .ris file, is place it in the appropriate CiteSpace folder in my C drive.
Then I run CiteSpace, go to 'Data' and 'Import/Export'. I click on the 'Scopus' tab and then click 'Scopus (RIS) to WOS' but I get message

    394 records converted from download_food.ris

    Total References: 394
    Valid References: 0 (0.0%)

Are the 2 messages related ? It appears that CiteSpace can locate the .ris file, but this is corrupted or empty (??).

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    kind regards
    Dimitris

    Hi all,
it appears that the problem is fixed. I was downloading the reference list from Scopus in .ris format, but in the 'Export documents settings' page, the square box ' Include references' was not checked.
So, the .ris file I was downloading, contained only the citations themselves and not the references in each of them.

Thanks for the update. It looks you found the problem. Yes, to perform citation analysis, your data must contain cited references.

    Hello,
I downloaded version 6.2.R4. I am having this same issue but I have made sure the 'include references' is checked. Do you have any other recommendations?
    Thanks!

If Scopus is your source, use the CSV export. Do not use the RIS export for now.
