Dear Prof. Chen,
It's my first time using Citespace and I had a question regarding the years
assigned to each node in a timeline visualization.
I'm trying to analyze three different node types: 1) keyword co-occurrence
analysis (CO-DESC), 2) journal co-citation analysis (JCA), 3) document
co-citation analysis (DCA) using publications from 2012 to 2022
and I'm a bit confused about the years assigned to each node in the
timeline view.
At first I thought it was the year a certain keyword or journal/document
first appeared or was first cited but after looking at some nodes, the year
in the timeline doesn't seem to fit this or the beginning year of the burst
or (in the case of DCA) the publication year.
For example, the timeline view year of the journal SCI REP-UK is 2015,
though according to the burst history it was first cited in 2012 and the
beginning year of the burst is 2020. CO-DESC also had cases like this where
the timeline view year of a keyword didn't match its first appearance year
or the beginning burst year.

I'm thinking maybe it's the average year of the total publications that (in
the case of CO-DESC) the keyword appeared or (in the case of JCA/DCA) the
journal or document was cited..?
I would really appreciate it if you could clarify this for me. Thank you
very much for your support!
Thank you very much for your reply and I'm sorry to bother you again but I had some follow up questions.
First, regarding CO-DESC, what I understand from your explanation is that the first year column in the burst history view does not indicate the year of appearance but the timeline view year does (as seen in attached image 1).
Is there a way to adjust the burst history view to reference the first occurrence year of each keyword like the timeline view?
Second, regarding DCA, I've observed in my timeline result that several nodes are placed differently from their publication year.
For example, as seen in the attached image 2, the "Yoo NJ, 2012" node is placed after 2013 and "Altshuler D, 2010" (which is in the same cluster as Yoo NJ, 2012) is even placed after that.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong in the analysis process or interpreting the results incorrectly? Is there a reason this is happening?

For a cited reference, its year of publication is used. For a keyword, the first year of appearance is used.

That was a bug fixed in the most recent Advanced version. The fix should be released with the Basic version in a week or so.
