The CinePaint Digital Film Library is the first film library to provide digital intermediate files (Cineon). This is the same format studios use when creating a film for theatrical release. http://www.ibiblio.org/cinepaint/ Cheers, Robin --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Robin.Rowe@MovieEditor.com Hollywood, California www.CinePaint.org Free motion picture and still image editing software |

I've pulled the Windows 0.18-1 release off SourceForge because in tests this morning it won't open files. File open hang is a 0.18 bug that had mysteriously gone away while working on 0.18-1, and now just as mysteriously returned. It seems to hang inside of GTK+, not CinePaint. We're rebuilding GTK+ for Windows so we can trace into it, but it will probably take a week to track down the problem and release 0.18-2. *** Announcing CinePaint Release 0.18-1 *** Source tarball or Windows executable self-installer available. Windows source and Mac OS X versions still being packaged. 0.18-1 Release: Fixes autoconf misconfiguration that caused non-Intel builds to fail for missing libcinepainti.a (which was removed in 0.18). Fixes for home directory install bug on some earlier versions of Windows. Wilber gone. Replaced with temporary CP icon. 0.18 Release: This release focused on fixing problems on Linux and the final integration with the Windows branch. Although the code is now completely in sync and builds on *nix and Win32, the Windows version is broken due to an unresolved bug somewhere in the file loading plug-ins. Windows users will have to wait for 0.18-1. What's new for Linux users: - BMP files plug-in (unstable) - SoftImage PIC files plug-in - Guash thumbnail browser (unstable) - UserFilter plug-in (unstable) What's new for developers - PICL, the Plug-In Compatibility Layer - GIMP plug-ins are much easier to trick into building The libgimp directory contains the GIMP PICL shims - Experimental effort at building ImageMagick plug-ins The magick directory contains the incomplete Magick shims In plug-ins/pnm is an unmodified Magick plug-in that compiles but doesn't link due to incomplete shims. Broken, but in the tarball: - PyGimp (significant breakage) - Gfig (some breakage) - Script-Fu (disabled due to gcc 3.3 bug noted in tracker) This is the last of the transition releases from Film Gimp to CinePaint. Many hundreds of compile-time warnings were fixed and the app code was reorganized into a subdirectory separating the code that touches bit-depth. The libcinepaint directory is now just lib. The autoconf files were overhauled but more work is needed there. Helper scripts were added: autogen.sh and clean-up scripts. Please pardon our construction dust. We're going to settle back to incremental improvements and increasing stability. Hi. I've released 0.17, despite it being somewhat broken, so other developers can work on it. I won't be available until the end of next week. You're on your own for now. (This seemed like a better choice than to sit on the code for another two weeks.) FYI, the bug is most likely in plug_in.c. I tried not to disturb the *nix wire protocol code there (conditional defines), but the plug-in comms stuff is fragile. It only needs to be nudged slightly to cause a problem. Debugging that code was a significant effort in the Windows port. *** RELEASE NOTES *** WARNING: *nix users will find this a broken release -- for developers only! Windows users should be mostly ok, but may find new bugs. Users of 0.16-3 (Windows only) should go to 0.17. Film Gimp 0.16 *nix users should wait of 0.17-1. Do not release rpm or deb packages of 0.17. This release unifies the Windows and *nix code. There is a bug in the *nix code that it crashes after loading the first plug-in. This version is being released now so that developers can get in sync with the new codebase. Hi. I've noticed that when filmgimp.org switched over to cinepaint.org, that the update calendar which had always been posted on the lower portion of the homepage was either taken down or moved to a page that I haven't been able to locate. Is there any update calendar for me to look and find what additions and updates are planned for cinepaint and when they've been added/completed? On that same note, how is the aqua version of cinepaint coming along? When will I be ablet to tell that it has been completed? I'm excited at the prospect of a stable version of Cinepaint for OSX that also has OpenEXR support as version 0.16 for mac (still labeled Filmgimp) does not. CinePaint for Windows 0.16-3: This is a Windows bug-fix release, adds BMP support, and puts another row of tools (notably Smudge) on the toolbox toolbar. Automake is still broken -- Linux and Mac users will have to wait a little longer. The trouble is I'm just not that expert with automake yet. Getting assistance and making progress. Will try for a Linux release again next weekend. *Automake still broken, won't build on Linux or Mac *Smudge added to toolbox *Menus lose extra levels, {Xtns} becomes {Help}, {Frame Manager} under {File} *Alan Horkan's menus patch *Toolbox options on right-click (or double-click) *Kai-Uwe Behrmann's TIFF patch *Maya IFF crash fixed *BMP plug-in added *Tips.txt updated to remove "GIMP" *'typedef struct Something Something' fixes everywhere *Cyril's unsharp plug-in added *XCF back in (still broken for GIMP 1.2 files) *Console is gone (except in debug build) *Windows-compatible home directory location FYI, tasks in the above list that don't have a name on them I did personally. *** News Release *** CinePaint, Linux Movies Group, Open Source Programmers, and SpectSoft at NAB! Popular open source motion picture image editing program has birds-of-a-feather meeting at National Association of Broadcasters convention and demonstrations on show floor HOLLYWOOD, California - April 3, 2003 - CinePaint, a free open source image retouching program used in more than a dozen feature films including Harry Potter and Scooby-Doo, will have a birds-of-a-feather meeting on Monday, April 7th, 2003, from 4pm to 6pm in Room N241 of the Las Vegas Convention Center at the NAB convention. The meeting will be held in conjunction with the Linux Movies Group (LinuxMovies.org) and Open Source Programmers (OpenSourceProgrammers.org). Keeping with the spirit of free open source software, this meeting is free and open to all. "This is a great opportunity for those interested in CinePaint or in the Linux and open source phenomena generally," says CinePaint project leader Robin Rowe. "We're lucky to have this venue and appreciate the National Association of Broadcasters helping to make it possible." Rowe will lead the meeting with an overview slide presentation, then hold a Q&A session taking questions from the floor to help stimulate discussion. Much of the meeting time is planned as a mixer, with discussion in small groups. "Everyone can have more fun talking with their peers than just listening to me," says Rowe. CinePaint for Linux will be on display at NAB in the SpectSoft booth (SL2519), which is located adjacent to the Adobe booth. SpecSoft will be demonstrating CinePaint in conjunction with DDR/EDIT, its new 10-bit uncompressed video disk drive recorder for standard and high definition. A plug-in for CinePaint outputs images to DDR/EDIT for use as a framestore or alpha channel keyer. The DDR/EDIT plug-in, created by SpectSoft's Jason Howard, adds {File}{Export to Card} to the CinePaint menu interface. CinePaint is free software. The generosity and commitment of its developers, users and sponsors make CinePaint possible. * Pricing and Availability Free at http://cinepaint.sourceforge.net, available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and other *nix platforms. Download version 0.16 or higher. * Further Information www.CinePaint.org Robin Rowe, CinePaint project leader, 818-243-0339 or Robin.Rowe@MovieEditor.com Jason Howard, SpectSoft, 209-847-7812 or ja...@sp... Windows CinePaint 0.16-2 released! This is mostly a Windows bug-fix release: * cineon and hdr loader bug fixed * significantly faster, with fewer debug messages (iodebug.h added) * version # in About box * My Documents/.cinepaint * Save File Copy As crash bug fixed * gimp filenames renamed * Tip of the day, not GIMP tip Windows users want this file: windows.CinePaint.0.16-2.exe Developer source files: filmgimp-0.16-2.win32.tar.gz filmgimp-0.16-2.win32.zip The tarball contains code for all platforms. The zip file contains additional Windows-only files such as VC++ project files. The file unzips to a folder named win32 that should be placed in the filmgimp-0.16-2 tarball folder. By the way, there's a shell script named clean.win32.sh to help remove extraneous files in preparation for zipping up. Because this version had many files renamed to remove "gimp" from the names, the *nix makefiles are quite broken. There is a shell script called obsolete/rename.sh that is the renaming script. It shows which files were renamed and to what. Once the makefiles are repaired (0.17) the next step will be to break them again -- to rename the .c files to .cpp. That 0.17 release will be the first release called CinePaint on the Linux and Mac OS X platforms. The release after 0.17 should be our first C++ release.
