George, > It is a good idea to have an inliner in the CIL distribution. This is exactly what I wanted to hear. An inliner makes CIL much more valuable as a toolkit for source-to-source transformations and it might prove helpful with non-transforming analyses. > I expect our users to contribute (and maintain) extensions. > Very little of this has been happening, unfortunately. I expected a raise this year. Very little... :-/ But seriously, the audience for the CIL-system is small compared to, e.g. Linux or Perl. Moreover, the problems to be solved with it are anything but trivial. There ain't no "Hello, world!" in this domain, we have to cope with the intricacies of C. CIL does an excellent job in simplifying plain C and providing a substantial user-interface for analysis and transformation. Still only very few programmers have the interest and the skill to write CIL extensions suitable for the mainline. /Chris -- Dr. Christoph L.
