The cursor freezes when a window to browse directories appears. It happens when I need to select a path for GUS or Timidity. The dialog box appears and I can't move my mouse. I can press the Windows key to unfreeze it.
I'm curious to understand the symptoms of this better. Can you still see the cursor, and it's just frozen in place? Or does the cursor itself disappear completely?

You can still see the cursor when this occurs, but cannot move it. I also confirmed that the cursor will not freeze if it's outside the setup program window when the option is selected via the keyboard. If part of the dialog itself appears outside the setup window, and the cursor is over it when it appears, it won't freeze.
This only affects the cursor when the dialog first appears, and only if the cursor is in the setup program's window at the time. If the cursor doesn't freeze, it can be safely moved over the setup window. The same after unfreezing it.

I spent quite a bit off time trying to fix this but I've given up. For now I've just disabled the dialog window on Windows: the file selector widgets just behave like normal text input boxes.

Can you tell me what version of Windows you are using?
Windows 7 pro 64-bit. After some more tests, I found out that this bug may only occur when the dialog box appears under the cursor.

Indeed, I approve what Dragonsbrethren said.
