I have successfully run Drupal on FutureQuest and Pair Networks.  I've heard a lot of unpleasant things about DreamHost, mostly that they over-fill servers, but haven't used them personally.

For Drupal, I'd say for a medium to large site you definitely want to run with an opcode cache as it is non-small.  For a personal blog, I run mine on Pair Networks just fine without it.  You can find hosts that offer opcode caches for not that much, I've found, if you look around a bit.

I will ask that you only consider hosts that support GoPHP5: http://gophp5.org/hosts .  Why should be obvious. :-)  (Pair Networks is not listed because they don't explicitly say 5.2 on their web site yet, but 5.2.3 is now their default for new accounts and PairLite, their junior version, is on the list.)
