I don't think you can make a blanket-statement about search engine friendly URLs... I mean, they all work a bit different, and all of them will have their own heuristic of what makes a URL "better" to follow or index or rank. Of course, the actualy CONTENT of the page ocunts for a lot more, but the URL is taken into account still. There's also the crucial question of HUMAN usability -- Oft-times what people were making for a nice easy SEO friendly URL had the added bonus, and sometimes pre-requisite, of being a URL humans can remember...
