So... Let's try and be more inviting to beginners with a "Beginner's Break" at the start of each meeting, eh? I've been meaning to do this, and tried to get started with it before, but hopefully we'll follow-through better this time... I also definitely like the idea of ending with specific user questions, time permitting. That does tend to lead to small group stuff, and sometimes total anarchy and a meeting that drags on. Perhaps we could take turns coming up with something good for a beginner, or taking an on-line tutorial and re-working it for our own site or... To get the ball rolling, how about some "old hands" answer this open-ended question OFF-LIST to me, and I'll see what I can pull out of it for the JUNE meeting Beginner's Break. (MAY being php|tek itself...) What one thing do you wish somebody had told you when you were a beginner? I'll even try to have some kind of beginner's Tips for tonight's meeting, if I can squeeze out a half-hour of free time from work and meeeting prep errands... |
